I must have some more pictures from Utah on my other memory card, because I remember taking pictures of Jack dying eggs with his grandma but they're not here in this post. I'll put them with next week's!
I'm so glad we happened to be in Utah over Easter this year. We were there because Jared had an interview of sorts in Cedar City. (Those pictures must be on the other card, too. I'll do the Cedar City post next time, along with some general updates on where Jared's at and where he's headed on this fun medical training journey.)
Anyway, we spent all of Friday in Cedar City, and then we were able to spend Easter weekend with family before heading back to Casper. Jack loved finding eggs, and especially finding the chocolate in the eggs. After his initial hunt there were several other egg hunts that Jack put on for us. He always hid the eggs in the exact same spots so it wasn't too hard (window sill, under a pillow, in a couch corner).
^^I think this is his "savoring" face, but I'm not entirely sure haha
^^One of my parents' neighbors brought over some chocolates and a balloon on Easter morning to spread some quarantine cheer. So cute. Jack spent the rest of the day with the balloon, and even took it for a swing out on the deck.
^^I love this picture of Jack and Jared with my beautiful Grandma Roper. If only I'd gotten a good picture with Jack's eyes open (and with me in it!). Next time.

We had Easter dinner at my parents' house with Grandma Roper. It had been a sweet day spent with family and a "home church" lesson. Later, Chris and Caitlin came over and all of us and Tim did our traditional adults Easter egg hunt, complete with confetti eggs to smash on people and cash prizes. Chris won the golden egg this year after much conspiring and chasing. I found the silver. This is one of our favorite traditions that my mom came up with just a couple years ago. I hope we're able to continue with it for years to come! We'll very likely be within 2 hours of Utah Valley by two years from now, so we'll be able to make it to a lot more family holidays. We can't wait!
Easter in Utah

Update on my dying technologies saga (skip to the pictures if you'd like to get to the "real post"): my phone is fine (yay!). But my laptop...100% kaput. I even tried opening it up and watching youtube videos about what parts of the motherboard to prod to try to turn it on one last time to retrieve one or two documents that hadn't been backed up. Nope. It's ok though. I did back everything up a month or two ago.

Basically I have three options on where to go from here, since I really do need a computer of some sort: (1) Have my brother Peter ship me his basically new Pixelbook, (2) use Jared's second laptop [yes he has two, and yes they are both awful], or (3) spend my savings and maybe get some birthday help to buy another Macbook.

Option 3 is the one that appeals most. Obviously. Who wouldn't love a new Macbook? I've really come to love and prefer Macs for photo and video editing, which is something I'll continue to do throughout my life (especially photo editing). If I wasn't into photography I'd just buy a PC since they're a lot cheaper, but man, I've been using Jared's PC for photos since my Macbook died and it's a paaain in the bum. Unfortunately, buying a new computer would deplete my savings, and I'd rather not do that if I have another option. Buying Peter's Pixelbook would have been my next preference, but it looks like you can't run Lightroom (my photo-editing software) on Pixelbooks since they function more like a tablet. So that leaves me with Jared's second laptop.

Jared is a sweet bb angel and was kind enough to compile all of his files onto his work laptop, then run a factory reset on the laptop he used all through medical school so I could set it up and personalize it as my very own. I didn't even ask him to but he was pumped to do it. He hoped that running a factory reset would speed the computer up a bit for me. Well, this is my first trial run on it writing this blog post, and woof. Like, woooooof. How Jared became a medical doctor doing all his studies on this laptop is beyond me. His perseverance is astounding. It is soooooo slow, and sooooo glitchy, and awful for importing/converting photos. Also the battery will completely give out at random times, even if it's over halfway charged. Probably to be expected from a laptop that was purchased 7 years ago with its sole draw being that it was the cheapest laptop at Costco. I'm going to try and make it work until Jared's done with residency though. The real test will be if I can get Lightroom set up on here later this week. For now, enjoy a bunch of unedited photos from our weekend, and appreciate the magic that is photo editing!! These are taken with the same camera as my other posts but the difference is huge. These look so dark and dull to me.

On Saturday we decided to get out in nature. We're so lucky to live in Wyoming, where the effects of COVID have been minimal. We're still quarantining and people are encouraged to stay home/wear masks when they have to go out in public, but there are relatively few COVID cases here and all the state parks are still open for day use. Jared starts 6 weeks of hospital shifts today. It's going to be rough. I'm glad we decided on one last adventure for a while.
We decided on a morning adventure in Glendo State Park, since it's only about an hour away and we haven't been there before. It consists of a huge lake with miles of usable beach, tons of campgrounds and trees, some nice little hikes, this cool little grassland/river area we found that was a wildlife viewing area, and probably much more. We saw a few boaters, fishers, and mountain bikers from a distance, but no one close enough that we had to worry about social distancing.
We found a cute little boardwalk for looking out over the grassy river. It felt like the perfect mashup between Wyoming and the marshy savannas of southern Georgia. There was a cute lazy river and some enormous birds overhead. I can't wait to come back in the summer and see it all lush.
Jared's talked about wanting to own land as long as I've known him. Since moving to Wyoming (where land is plentiful and pretty cheap) I've come around to the idea of a little piece of land somewhere where you can see a million stars. I wouldn't say no to something like this with a lazy creek and some pretty trees, and I'd demand Jared build a little boardwalk on it for nightly sunset walks.
I can say with a good degree of certainty that this was probably the best day Savvy's had since before Jack was born. She spent all morning fetching, swimming, digging, running, and chewing on big sticks. I'm so excited to give her more days like this in the summer, now that Jack's old enough to be out longer during the day.
Jack could have stayed by this shallow river forever, playing with his tractors and making them "swim" through the water. He wanted to get in and swim himself, but settled for wading since it's not exactly summer weather yet.

Well, now that I'm out of pictures I'm realizing that our pictures from the first part of our day never made it off my memory card. I'll have to include them in next week's post. Jack's already up from his nap and adamantly wants me to play trains with him. Until next time!

Glendo State Park

To start out, here is my apology for missing my regular posting day by a good bit. Alas, my 11-year-old laptop has officially lived its last day😭😭 I've been in denial since Monday, when it first stopped showing signs of life and wouldn't turn on no matter what I did. I left it plugged into the charger, certain that it just needed some time off and then it would come back to me, as has happened on other occasions during the past few months. Not this time though. It's time to call it and resign myself to replacing my birthday list with a "plz contribute to my new laptop fund" cry of desperation. As a tribute to my laptop, I'd like to reflect on its full life:

Dear 2009 MacBook Pro, you saw me through some crazy times. I paid for you in full with my first few months of wages from my online editing job in Grenada, so that I could use you to continue to do my editing job (rather than borrowing Jared's study computer when he wasn't using it) to pay for our exensive and very necessary island AC. I scoured the internet and bought you refurbished, already 5 cute years old. This saved me money and allowed me to get you in a 17" screen size that was no longer available, ideal for my new photo-editing hobby. I smuggled you into our Caribbean island home by hiding you in the bottom of a crammed duffle bag so I wouldn't have to pay hundreds of dollars in taxes at customs and immigration. You handled the humidity and power conversions very well, and you even survived being dropped on our tile floor multiple times, though you did acquire a crack that spanned the entire length of your screen. No biggie though! You would continue to run well for another 6 years. On you i learned to edit photos and videos. I tried to start multiple businesses--none of which stuck, but all of which taught me amazing new skills! We had a lot of fun together, ol' laptop. I wrote years and years of blog posts on you. You didn't get a lot of use while I lived in Georgia, because when I was pregnant with bb Jack I couldn't look at any sort of screen without barfing for some reason. That was nice. Anyway, you will be dearly missed. Mostly because your old OS allowed me to run a downloaded version of Lightroom from the good old days, and now when I get a new computer I'll have to purchase a monthly subscription if i want to keep editing photos, which I do. Booooo.

Anyway, that's what's been going on over here. Oh, and I signed up for a 6-week online interior design course through Casper College. My first lecture is tonight. I guess I'll have to borrow Jared's laptop to watch it. Also my phone is on the fritz now too. If it dies, so help me, I'm switching back to a flip phone. I'm being serious. I've been on a social media break for a few months now so I'm pretty sure it'll be fine. I will not be buying any more replacement smartphones during residency!!!!

Ok that's all. Here is a selfie from my phone. I have a memory card full of lovely DSLR photos from our time in Utah last week. I also have lots of updates about Jared's job interviews and our plans for the future, but I'm going to leave you hanging since my thumbs are burning from typing so much on my little phone screen. I'll hit you with those updates next week! Catch u on the flippity flop!
All my technologies are failing me and I'm on quarantine. Send help!!!
