We're just getting off of a wonderful weekend in Bear Lake with Jared's parents. Jack spent a couple days up there just him and his grandparents. He got used to a very cushy life of phone games/movies on demand, an endless stream of treats on the house, and late night card games ending at 10:30 pm. Tough for me and Jared to walk into that and try to taper him back without being public enemies #1 and 2. But he had great bonding time with grandma and grandpa and we had so much fun all together so it's over all a win. Hopefully this can be a yearly tradition now that we're living in Utah. And now for some pictures:
^^While Jack was gone, my parents came to watch Alice one evening so we could go on a date. We had delicious pizza at curry pizza in Lehi (if you love pizza and Indian food, it's a slam dunk), and then walked around Ashton Gardens. Being near Thanksgiving Point has been the loveliest perk of living where we do.
^^Alice loves photo booths. I love skipping the $8 price tag and using my cracked rear-facing camera.
^^Bear Lake with my Baby! I had low expectations for this beach day. I kind of figured that without cousins to play with, the kids would get bored quickly. But they didn't! I spent over an hour our on the aqua lily with Jared and his mom, and the kids never once got antsy for us. They were deep in play on the beach. After an hour I wanted to come in for snacks but I was too scared to break their focus so I just kept enjoying my perch out on the water until they came to join for a game of "pirate ship."
Random bit: Last time we were at Bear Lake with Jared's parents, they brought leftover pizza from the night before to the lake, kept cold in the cooler, for our lunch. Instead of going through hassle of making sandwiches. We did the same thing this time, and are now even more convinced that cold pizza is the best, easiest, most satisfying beach lunch.
^^Minnetonka Cave (I stayed back with Alice for her "nap" that she never took. 0/5 stars, would not recommend staying back for the failed nap.)^^This is the only picture I took at the Raspberry Days parade, but Alice was in her element. She and Jack collected so much candy. It was a great parade for such a small town. My first Raspberry Days at Bear Lake did not disappoint (however, it was so crowded that we never went to eat in town because the lines at every single restaurant were just ridiculous all weekend, so I'd recommend going a different week if you're a Bear Lake first-timer).
^^Foam at the festival.
^^Jared's morning workout view. The kids did better than ever at sleeping through the night on this trip. They both had hard times getting down initially and still required having us in their room, but sleeping through the night is an enormous step in the right direction during a family trip. Good vacation progress.
^^More festival fun.
^^Adventure girls! Alice would wake up, get herself out of bed, change out of her pullup and pajamas into her undies and clothes, grab her backpack, come upstairs, and announce that she was ready to go on an adventure. I just love this girlie. The adventure usually involved a walk, picking some flowers, and playing "minecraft" with Jack in the trees.
^^Pickleball. There was another little toddler named Alice on the court next to us and
Alice kept yelling, "Hey! Owice (Alice)!"
Alice kept yelling, "Hey! Owice (Alice)!"
^^More adventures. On our last day we explored in the trees behind the cabin and found a little grove to build forts in. Next time our cabin trip will involve less tv and more tree forts.
^^Went for a drive around Fish Haven and Jared fell in love with this stone cottage with a barn-style garage.^^Enjoying our veiw back home.
